Edit Did You Know? Trivia Although playing a teenager, Vincent Cassel was 28 years old when this movie was in production. Goofs The trip across Paris is strange : the three characters should arrive at the Saint-Lazare station north-west of Paris , coming from ChanteloupLesVignes.
Yet, when they arrive, they are in front of the Montparnasse station south of Paris , on the Rennes street. Then, they go to Asterix place, on the boulevard Pierre Ier of Serbia, close to Iena Place west of Paris , and when they try to catch the last train, this time they are at the Saint-Lazare station, the right one to go back.
But then, when they are on the roof, they see the Eiffel Tower and the Trocadero from the south-east, being probably close to Montparnasse station.
Then, they come across a sculpture, L'Ecoute, in the Halles Garden center of Paris , before going back. Hence, their trip goes : south, west, north-west, south and center of Paris.
Alternate Versions In some English language subtitled mainly American versions the reference to the character of Said's friend who lives in the "posh towers" is 'Snoopy'.
However, the untranslated dialogue says 'Asterix' and the woman who Vinz speaks to on the intercom laughs and says 'No, but his friend Obelix is here', whereas the translated version says 'No, but his friend Charlie Brown is.

I've been handing out 5s left and right but god damn these films I'm seeing are just so deserving of it. La Haine, which translates to "hate", is one of the most powerful and affecting films ever made.
It's a modern masterpiece of emotion, bringing the viewer on a ride of images and sounds that enhance the incredible characters brought to the screen.
It's criminally under-seen, which is a sad thing to think about. La Haine deserves every ounce of praise and adoration.
The Awesome: The characters, the writing, the cinematography, the direction, the acting, the opening, the way it tackles the issues of modern society, the conclusion, the DJ sequence, the rooftop scene.
I could go on all day about this wonderful masterwork of cinema. La Haine is ultimately about violence, and how these three main characters weave in and….
Frames in Black and White, showing a mirror to the society which is still relevant today after 22 years of its release.
Vinz stands in front of the mirror uttering the famous lines from Taxi Driver. He is angry towards society and how it is in a free fall.
La Haine starts after the riots which happened because one of their friend Abdel was brutalized by the police shortly before the riot and lies in a coma.
Vinz is filled with rage, he wants to prove something to himself and to others on how gutsy he is. He just wants his characteristic to be known as Gangster who killed a cop.
This will forever be one of my very favorite films. Incredibly well crafted and unique to its style and storytelling, it is hands down one of the few times i've gotten this heavily invested in a film, its characters and plot.
It was perfect throughout the entire 98 minute long duration and it also has one of my favorite endings too. Wow a true masterpiece.
Everything from the acting, to the direction is at the top of its game. The performances here are so well realized they feel just like real people hanging out, and this is also due to a fantastic script that is one of the best of all time in my opinion.
The look of this film is flawless. I genuinely don't even know where to start. This is most likely one of, if not, the most powerful film I think I've ever seen.
It's a very relevant film for the times we are going through and I can imagine it will stay relevant for a very long time. It kicks off with a hard-hitting title sequence filled with videos and clips of rioters, violence and protestors.
It can be related to any period of time but because of the recent events, it struck me way more than it usually would.
The themes of violence, brutality and anarchy are extremely significant throughout the film, it shows you a type of life that you wouldn't believe.
It shows you want…. Plot Keywords. Parents Guide. External Sites. User Reviews. User Ratings. External Reviews. Metacritic Reviews. Photo Gallery.

The three go to see Abdel in the hospital, but are turned away by the police. The group narrowly escapes after Vinz nearly shoots a riot officer.
They take a train to Paris, where their responses to both benign and malicious Parisians cause several situations to escalate to dangerous hostility.
In a public restroom, a Gulag survivor tells them of a friend who refused to relieve himself in public and subsequently froze to death, puzzling the three as to the meaning of the story.
After being kicked out of an art gallery and unsuccessfully trying to hotwire a car, the trio stay in a shopping mall and learn from a news broadcast that Abdel is dead.
Vinz breaks up the fight at gunpoint, catching a single skinhead. His plan to execute him is thwarted by his reluctance to go through with the deed, and, cleverly goaded by Hubert, he is forced to confront the fact that his heartless gangster pose does not reflect his true nature.
Vinz lets the skinhead flee. Early in the morning, the trio return home and Vinz turns the gun over to Hubert. The officer grabs and threatens Vinz, taunting him with a loaded gun held to his head.
Hubert rushes to their aid, but the gun accidentally goes off, killing Vinz. This stand-off is underlined by a voice-over of Hubert's slightly modified opening lines "It's about a society in free fall He was killed at point blank range while in police custody and handcuffed to a radiator.
The officer was reported to have been angered by Makome's words, and had been threatening him when the gun went off accidentally. Kassovitz began writing the script on April 6, , the day M'Bowole was shot.
He was also inspired by the case of Malik Oussekine, a year-old student protester who died after being badly beaten by the riot police after a mass demonstration in , in which he did not take part.
Oussekine's death is also referred to in the opening montage of the film. Mathieu Kassovitz included his own experiences; he took part in riots, he acts in a number of scenes and includes his father Peter in another.
The majority of the filming was done in the Parisian suburb of Chanteloup-les-Vignes. Unstaged footage was used for this film, taken from —96; riots still took place during the time of filming.
To actually film in the projects, Kassovitz, the production team and the actors, moved there for three months prior to the shooting as well as during actual filming.
Due to the film's controversial subject matter, seven or eight local French councils refused to allow the film crew to film on their territory.Love & Money Frederic Stockheinz ().
